England started their FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar with a thumping 6-2 win over Asian giants Iran. However the high voltage clash against the United States ended in a 0-0 draw and the English fans were simply not happy as the final whistle was greeted with a lot of jeers from the fans.
However after that match, Marcus Rashford feels that if they play the next game with full intensity and come up with a win, then fans will forget the drab draw against the United States. He also shared how it is not a nice feeling and also highlighted how the fans don’t need to boo us to make us realize that we have played poorly, the feeling was very much mutual among the group.
“I feel like if we play well in the next game, that USA game will be forgotten,” said Rashford. “It’s not a nice feeling. But to be honest we don’t need fans to boo us to know we have not played well. It was a feeling that was mutual among the group – that we could have done better.
He also highlighted how as players one wants to win every game but sometimes they end up short and it is very disappointing as he feels people cannot get so negative about it as they are still in a very good position in their group. “You do question if you would have changed things in the build-up to the game but that is natural as players because you want to win as many games as you can. When you don’t win it’s disappointing but we can’t be so negative about it. We’re in a good position in the group. When you win a game, you are the best team in the world. When you lose, you are the worst. That’s football. As players you have to keep a balance,” the United forward added.
The Three Lions could have wrapped up qualification with a win against the United States but Gareth Southgate’s men are even though they are the favourites to top the group and are pon course to the knockout if not they lose by more than four goals against Wales.
