Manchester United’s manager Erik Ten Hag was delighted after he registered their his win at the club after they stunned Liverpool by 2-1 at Old Trafford on Monday. Jadon Sancho became the first player to score a goal for the Red Devils this season as he kept his composure in the box.
In fact, before this, Anthony Elanga also had a good chance to put United in front but he could not take it as the post denied him. In the second half, Marcus Rashford was able to double United’s lead. Mohamed Salah got one back 10 minutes from the final whistle but the home team was able to clinch three points for the first time in the season.
The Dutchman didn’t name Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maquire in the starting XI and named Bruno Fernandes as the captain.
Erik Ten Hag said he can talk about tactics but it was more about a positive attitude from his players against the Reds.
“We can talk about tactics but it is all about attitude,” said Ten Hag. “I am happy with the performance but we have to bring it every game. Don’t just bring it against Liverpool. Every Premier League game is difficult, we need to bring it to every game. It starts, once again, with the spirit.”
On the other hand, Bruno Fernandes feels the team’s intensity was spot on as they were able to get off the mark in the season.
“Today was really important for us,” said Bruno Fernandes, who was made captain in the absence of Maguire. “We showed the right intensity and more importantly the right character. We got the three points. Scoring first was really important for us, for our confidence.
“It was important for us to take the first step in the league, now we have to carry on”.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag revealed that Maguire and Ronaldo will be back in action for United in the upcoming matches.
“I don’t have to mention Maguire and Ronaldo. They are amazing players and they will play a role in the future and the short-term future as well,” he said.
“We have the right players, I am convinced of that. The window is not closed and you need numbers and also quality.”
