Sebastian Vettel has revealed that he is currently in talks with Aston Martin about his future with the team. Vettel, whose current contract comes to an end after this season, also shut down rumours that he was making a move to McLaren next year.
When asked about his future recently, the German driver said: “Obviously, I’ve said that at some point, we will start to talk. I’m talking to the team.
“I think there’s a clear intention to keep going, and we’ll see soon where we stand.”
The four-time world champion joined Aston Martin from Ferrari in 2021 after a particularly difficult last season with the Italian team. Since joining Aston Martin, he has not been on the podium, and this is currently the third year in a row that he is going without a win, but the season is far from over yet, so anything could happen.
Still, his record precedes him, and he is the only active racer with more titles after Hamilton. The last time he won a race was in 2013, having won it four years in a row, and he also has the record for the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history. Since joining Formula 1 in 2007, Vettel has driven for five teams, including his current team, Aston Martin.
At age 35, it is unlikely that any team would be eager to sign Vettel, even with his sterling history. His performance over the last few years have not been impressive. Although the fault may not be entirely his but the strength of his team. For example, his last season in Ferrari was one of the worst of the team in recent times as they struggled badly with car problems. The chances are very high that if Vettel was in Ferrari this season, he may have finished with a podium, at least once, or even won a race, but that is just speculation.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for him, but we would know the decision of his team in the coming weeks.
