The search for the first away win continues as AS Roma manager continues for Ivan Juric as the Gialorossi suffered a 3-2 defeat against Hellas Verona at the Bentegodi.
The Gialorossi twice clawed their way back into the game with goals from Matias Soulé and Artem Dovbyk. Still, Verona got the maximum points three minutes to regulation time to secure a huge 3-2 victory through Abdou Harroui.
The Giallorossi went into the clash following a scrappy 1-0 win over Torino midweek to save Ivan Juric’s job. With this result, the tension remains sky-high.
Before this clash, Hellas had suffered three defeats on the bounce. They repeated last season’s win against the capital club, earning their first win in four games.
Nicola Zalewski scored after 12 minutes with a wonderful control, cut inside, and curler into the far bottom corner, but it was chalked off as he was offside when gathering the long ball over the top.
Moments later, Zalewski went from hero to zero, releasing a horrible cross-field pass that was intercepted by Casper Tengstedt, who was clear on goal and gave Verona the lead against the run of play.
He later made up for his error with a well-timed run on the Enzo Le Fee through ball to test Lorenzo Montipò at the near post, only for Matias Soulé to blast the rebound over from 12 yards.
Roma eventually restored parity with a sweet team move as Lorenzo Pellegrini’s effort was charged down, but Zalewski rolled it back in from the left, and Soulé anticipated the defender would flick it in with his heel from close range.
Zeki Celik and Zalewski had another opportunity to make the most of another smart Soulé through the ball, but Tengstedt saw his angled drive deflected inches past the far post.
The hosts went ahead again from the resulting Ondrej Duda in-swinging corner, with Giangiacomo Magnani’s glancing header at the near post. Roma protest fell on deaf hearts as Evan Ndicka was caught on the nose, but it was not an unnatural movement from Magnani.
Roma restored parity after the restart, as Celik rolled across from the right for Dovbyk to bundle over the line from close range, in conjunction with Magnani.
After trying to lob Mile Svilar from midfield and wasn’t far off, Duda almost curled in directly from the corner flag, forcing a tough save from Svilar.
A few moments later, substitute Paulo Dybala skimmed the near-top corner with a free kick from the edge of the area.
Roma had a huge opportunity to turn it around when Stephan El Shaarawy pulled back from the by-line for Dybala to tap in from six yards, but a trio of Verona defenders combined to clear off the line with difficulty.
Instead, Verona restored their lead, all thanks to fresh legs off the bench that made the difference. Livramento shrugged Ndicka off the ball and rolled across for Abdou Harroui, who took a touch and swept in from 13 yards.
Dybala forced Montipò for a desperate one-handed whilrVerona received their third red card in two games, as Livramento flung himself with both legs at El Shaarawy.
