Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand reckons winger Amad Diallo isn’t just ready to fit into new manager Erik Ten Hag’s plan for the club. Diallo had joined hands with the Red Devils back in 2021 from Serie A team Atalanta.
The Ivorian footballer still has three years left in his contract. Diallo was sent to the Scottish team Rangers on six months loan deal. But the striker had a ho-hum stint as he scored only three goals in 13 matches across all competitions for the club.
Former Manchester United captain Ferdinand believes the youngster should be loaned back again so that he can gain experience in top-level football.
Speaking on Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said, “Unfortunately, he just isn’t ready. He went to the Rangers, but couldn’t really get into the team and affect their team, which tells you he’s not near getting into the Manchester United team. Do you know what I mean?”
He continued: “Plus, again, is he the right player? He hasn’t got that explosive pace that they’re maybe looking for; he’s more of a player with a bit more guile, who likes to come to the ball and create like that, rather than running onto things and behind and stuff like that.”
The six-time Premier League winner added: “I just think it’s a bit too early for someone like him to come in and take that mantle on. Yes, I don’t think he’s near enough to the first-team squad. If he’d gone to Rangers and smashed it at Rangers, then he’d have had a chance. But because he did nothing, he’s going to be a little bit off it, and he’s someone we will look to loan out, I’d say.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United have named a 31-member squad for their pre-season matches in Thailand and Australia. The Red Devils will take on Liverpool in Thailand on 12th July. Subsequently, they will lock horns against Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa in Downunder.
Manchester United had a horrible previous season and they will be determined to turn the tables in the next season.
