Paris Saint-Germain have received a double injury boost after Warren Zaire-Emery and Vitinha returned to training ahead of their Champions League opener against La Liga side Girona.
L’Équipe reported that the 18-year-old Zaïre- returned to first-team training. It’s yet to be known if the creative midfielder will feature in the clash, as he needs to get match fitness.
Zaïre-Emery sustained a calf injury during France’s 3-1 defeat against Italy at the Parc des Princes earlier this month. The injury had put his participation in PSG’s Champions League opener at risk.
Having missed Les Parisiens’ 3-1 victory over Stade Brestois on Saturday in the league encounter, L’Équipe reported that he was involved in a training session on Sunday and could be on the matchday squad. This means that Zaïre-Emery will at least be included in the matchday squad at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
This is positive news for PSG, which have also been without Vinha, who got injured during the international break.
Vitinha, who also returned to training on Monday, sustained an ankle problem that initially ruled him out of the midweek clash. Further training sessions at Le Campus will be crucial in determining his participation.
Luis Enrique and his medical staff are expected to decide on further sessions.
Meanwhile, PSG will be without Gianluigi Donnarumma, who suffered a minor injury against Brest.
The Italian number one goalie will be replaced by Matvey Safonov who joined them in the summer.
It will be a massive opportunity for him to stake a claim to the number one spot, as it was reported that the 25-year-old could threaten Donnarumma’s place in the starting line-up.
PSG will be going into the clash with a hundred percent record this season, having won all their Ligue 1 matches so far to top the league table.
