Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has expressed his emotions days after his sacking by Chelsea. The German manager has described the period as tough and penning it down in a statement as one of the most difficult things he has ever done.
Tuchel joined Chelsea from PSG in January 2021 and managed to win the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League trophy. He also led the Blues to the UEFA Super Cup and two FA Cup finals within his 19-month stay.
A change in the club’s hierarchy from Roman Abrahamovich to Todd Boehly meant that there would be some changes, but not many would expect it to be in the managerial position this season.
Expectedly, after spending over £200M on summer signings, there would be displeasures with the Blues’ performances that saw them pick just 10 points from their first six games.
A 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League last Tuesday was unexpected and was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
Tuchel expressed his feelings about how he was dismissed and replaced by Englishman Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge.
“This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write – and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years. I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end. This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players, and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.” Tuchel said.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager stated that he was honored to be a part of Chelsea history, and the nineteen months spent at the club will be special to him. Tuchel won the Champions League and the Club World Cup at the club.
