Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that the club’s hands are tied when it comes to trying to sign a new player when the summer transfer window opens.
Chelsea has had a tough 2022 as owner Roman Abrahamovic faced a lot of sanctions in relation to the Russia/Ukraine crisis.
Abramovich has since tried to find a new owner for the club, with several prominent personalities in the world stating their interest.
Chelsea accounts are also frozen, meaning that reaching a contract extension with players and signing new players are now complicated, if not impossible.
Irrespective of the complicated situation, the German manager vowed during the season to stay till the end of the season. The players of the club have also revealed that they are ready to fight for the club on the pitch.
Chelsea are in the final of the FA Cup, where they will face Liverpool. Although the Blues are out of the Premier League title race, they are comfortably sitting in the third position. They also are out of the UEFA Champions League after losing to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, failing to defend the title they won last season.
Tuchel revealed that Chelsea have their sights on some players but that hands are tied at Stamford Bridge.
“You’re never fully sure, but we would have some targets, and we would have for sure contacted some players and found out about their situations. Of course, now our hands are tied, we can still have the talks inside the building, but we cannot act. The situation is not ideal. This is the situation.” Tuchel said on Wednesday.
Chelsea will face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening, and the Blues will hope to pull clear of the race for the last UEFA Champions League spot by beating the Red Devils.
Manchester United lost 3-1 to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium at the weekend to sit six points behind Arsenal. Chelsea are in third with 65 points while Arsenal are in fourth with 60, followed by Tottenham Hotspur in fifth with 58 points.
