Tottenham midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg has demanded that manager Antonio Conte be more precise and specific with his criticism on Sunday after the team’s latest result in the Premier League.
On Saturday, Tottenham gave up a 2-0 lead as they drew 3-3 against Southampton at Saint Mary’s Stadium. The Italian manager then went on a rant criticizing his players for their performance, while further reports since then have revealed that Antonio Conte could be sacked.
The Italian manager has had to undergo surgery due to some health problems recently, with Ryan Mason taking temporary charge while he has returned to the dugout since then; he is expected to be in Italy during the international break while the club may announce his sacking any moment with Mason still expected to take temporary charge.
While Denmark midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg admitted that Conte was honest with his outburst because the team did not get the results, the Denmark international still wants the manager to be more explicit with his comments so that individual players can examine their performances.
“It comes from the fact that, unfortunately, we did not get the results we as a team and club wanted. We are still where we want and need to be in the Premier League. But yes, it’s hard. I understand that if you want to be successful as a team, you need 11 men who are committed to a project and a culture. But I think he has to elaborate on how he feels before you, as a player, can start measuring and weighing.” Hojbjerg said.
Tottenham Hotspur are in fourth position on the Premier League table with 49 points from 28 games, two points ahead of Newcastle United and 50, who have two games in hand. Tottenham will travel to Merseyside to face Everton after the international break.
