Todd Cantwell Pulls Out of International Duty

Midfielder Todd Cantwell has joined one of the many injured Norwich City players on the treatment table after pulling out of the England’s U21 team after sustaining a hamstring injury

The Canaries Midfielder played in the team’s last Premier League loss against Aston Villa amidst injury worries over his hamstring but still manage to feature in the game for 80 minutes.

Cantwell teamed up with the U21 team with teammate Max Aarons for Friday’s friendly between Slovenia and the Young Lions but he has now dropped out of contention to feature in the game.

Having contributed two goals and two assists for the Canaries in the Premier League this season, Cantwell has become one City’s key players and his decision to pull out of the is to avoid aggravating the hamstring has he faces a race against time to be fit ahead of next week Saturday’s visit to Bournemouth.

Aside Friday’s friendly with Slovenia Cantwell will also miss Tuesday’s Euro 2021 qualifier against Austria. However, defender Max Aarons remains with the team led by Aidy Boothroyd’s team.

This is Cantwell’s second international invite at the U21 level although he also featured at the Under-17 level.

The Canaries have now had Kenny McLean pulled out of Scotland duty due to hip injury while Jamal Lewis also dropped out of Northern Ireland due to Knee problems.

However, Daniel Farke could have the players back to full training before the game against Bournemouth as it revealed that the players only have minor injury worries. It will come as a relief for Farke who has had more than enough injury worries to think about.

A statement released by Norwich on Thursday revealed that both McLean and Cantwell will now return to Norwich and work with the club’s medical team ahead of their game against Bournemouth after the break.

Other players on the injury list for Daniel Farke’s side is Ben Godfrey who has gone under the knife on a Hernia in Munich, Timm Klose, Christoph Zimmermann, Alex Tettey, Tom Trybull, Onel Hernandez, Mario Vancric, Ralf Fahrmann and Tim Krul all who have varying timelines to their return date.

Defensive duo of Timm Klose and Christoph Zimmermann are however out on long term while others could return in a matter of weeks.
