Manchester United head coach Pep Guardiola was delighted after they clinched the Club World Cup, beating Fluminense by 4-0 in the final on Friday. The Spaniard is proud of his team and said winning this trophy makes them the best team in the world.
The Cityzens had a stellar run in the previous season, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions and thus they had become the first Premier League side after Manchester United to win the treble since 1999.
“I am so proud of this Club. What we have done is an outstanding achievement,” Guardiola told the reporters after the match.
“To win this trophy is to be the best team in the world. As a manager, it is what I am most proud of, that we are always there. No matter how much we win, no matter what trophies we lift, we are there again to fight for the next one,” the manager further added.
Argentina’s forward Julian Alvarez scored a brace for the Sky Blues, also opening the team’s account in the first minute of play. Nino scored an own goal whereas Phil Foden also found the back of the net for City.
After winning the treble in the last season, City has grabbed the Super Cup and now the Club World Cup.
Guardiola reflected on this unique period, saying, “To win the treble was truly special, but to win two more trophies and now hold these five major titles shows the unique mentality of this team, of the club and its fans. It is something no other English team has ever achieved and we will always remember this incredible time we spent together.”
Team captain Kyle Walker was also delighted with the team’s performance, stating, “We’ve shown over the past 12 months we are the best team in the world. Our results prove that and the consistency we have managed has been amazing.”
