Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan was delighted after the club defended their Premier League title following Arsenal’s 1-0 loss against Nottm Forest on Saturday. Gundogan is proud of his team and feels winning this trophy for three years on the bounce is incredible.
In fact, the Sky Blues have been the most consistent team in the Premier League in the last six years, as they won the title on five occasions. After their 1-0 loss against Nottm Forest, the Gunners fell eight points behind the Cityzens with the latter still having to play Chelsea (at the time of writing, Manchester City was leading 1-0 against the Blues at the Etihad Stadium).
City is known to come up with a collective show and though Arsenal dominated and kept their lead at the top for the majority of the season, the Pep Guardiola’s team leapfrogged them recently and was able to maintain their lead.
“The Premier League is without doubt the most demanding and competitive league in the world so that tells you everything about what an achievement this is,” he said.
“This squad is so talented and so special and to have been captain this season has been an enormous privilege.
“To have won this trophy three times in a row and five times in six years is incredible. That quality and consistency helps sum up what Manchester City stand for and ensures the club will continue to strive for success going forward.”
Apart from winning the Premier League crown, Manchester City are also in the race for their first-ever UEFA Champions League title. Furthermore, they will take on Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3. City will take on Inter Milan in the UCL final on June 10.
Ergo, they can become the second English club after Manchester United in 1999 to win the treble.
