Thuram secures late win for Inter Milan at Switzerland

Inter Milan left it late against Young Boys Berrln of Switzerland to secure maximum points in their Matchday Three clash of the UEFA Champions League.

Marcus, at the dearth, slotted in the ball from Di Marco’s cross after being released from Lautaro Martinez’s flick from the left corner.

The win makes it two from three as they jostle for the top playoff spot in a match they had the opportunity to open the goal chart from the spot kick but Marco Arnautovic couldn’t convert his penalty early in the second half.

Thuram’s second goal of the competition proved to be the match-winner deep into stoppages, sinking Young Boys and giving Inter a precious Champions League victory.

The Nerazzurri went into the clash on the back of four straight wins from their last four competitive matches.

Going into the Stadion Wankdorf, their Champions League record was a 0-0 draw at Manchester City and a 4-0 demolition of Crvena Zvezda.

Young Boys on their part are yet to gain a single point, having suffered a 3-0 loss against Aston Villa and 5-0 in Barcelona. They qualified for the money-spinning tournament after defeating, Galatasaray in both legs of the play-off.

The hosts had the first chance as Jaouen Hadjam saw a strike from distance take a big deflection, forcing Yann Sommer to scramble across for the save.

Another came their way when Alan Viriginius headed the at the back post, but Benjamin Pavard cleared it almost on the line before Sommer could reach it.

Inter almost conceded with another header from the same position as Sommer palmed away the Lukasz Lakomy diving header on Hadjam’s cross.

Joel Monteiro’s shot was deflected over by Dumfries following a smart ball over the top.

Inter finally got their chances during the half-hour when Yann Bisseck ran onto the Taremi back-heel flick, and the goalkeeper desperately rushed out to parry.

The hosts had a big chance with the last kick of the half when Silvere Ganvoula, at full stretch, failed to connect with the Monteiro cross from six yards.

A few minutes into the second half  Inter got a penalty as Hadjam hooked Dumfries down with an arm around his neck.

Arnautovic stepped up, but his effort was weak, and he played central. David von Ballmoos saved it, and he also parried the Dumfries rebound.

Inter suffered another injury blow as Carlos Augusto pulled up, clutching the back of his left thigh with a suspected hamstring strain.

Revitalized Young Boys came so close to an opener when Monteiro turned in midfield and ran towards the goal before drilling low onto the base of the upright.

The biggest chance came the way of inter at the 90th minute. Dimarco’s volley from a Dumfries pull-back was charged down, but Zielinski ballooned the rebound over the bar from 12 yards.

It was looking like both sides would settle for a point apiece, but that’s not Inter’s plan. Martinez’s back-heel flick sent Dimarco down the left, and the low cross found Marcus Thuram to tap in from five yards, getting to the ball between two defenders at the near post.

Inter almost made it two with the last kick of the game, but von Ballmoos made another one-handed save on Martinez before Thuram’s rebound was charged down.
