Saudi football team Al Hilal coach Ramon Diaz has put his weight behind Argentina to win the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022. Diaz feels it will be Lionel Messi’s turn to win the marquee event.
Meanwhile, Argentina had qualified for the final of the FIFA World Cup 2014 but they could not cross the final hurdle against Germany as they lost by 1-0.
Since then a lot has changed and Argentina has a different composition of players. Messi will once again lead the team and a lot will be expected from him.
Diaz said (via Albawaba): “This time it will be his turn to win.” He further added: “Argentina is a good team and Messi always makes you feel comfortable.”
Meanwhile, Messi and co. will begin their FIFA World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia on November 22. Subsequently, they will take on Mexico and Poland in Group C of the tournament.
On the other hand, Messi could not get going at PSG Saint-Germain in the previous season as he scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists for PSG Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.
However, he has been able to turn the tables in the ongoing season. The talisman has scored four goals and has provided seven assists in only nine games for PSG this season across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Argentina last won the FIFA World Cup back in 1986 and it will be interesting to note if they would be able to go all the way in the quadrennial event.
Messi recently turned 35 and the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which will be played in Qatar, could be his last major event for La Albiceleste. The linchpin had won his first major trophy with the national team when they lifted Copa America in 2021.
