Juventus have formally announced the appointment of Thiago Motta as their new coach.

Motta, a former Inter midfielder, landed the top job after he took Bologna to Champions League qualification.

This is coming a few days after Max Allegri was sacked after he won the Coppa Italia.

According to reports, the former Italy international signed a contract to June 2027 that is believed to be worth €3.5m per season plus bonuses rising to a maximum of €5m.

Speaking via the club website, the former Bologna boss expressed delight at beginning a new chapter at the helm of a great club like Juventus.

“I thank the owners and the management, who can be sure of my ambition to keep the Juventus flag flying high and to please the fans,” the coach added.

Juventus did not need to compensate his former employers as the Italo-Brazilian ended his contract this month and opted to walk away for a new experience in Turin.

The 41-year-old was in August and spent his entire senior coaching career in Italy. He had a stint with Genoa in October 2019 for a brief 10-match spell before succeeding at Spezia and Bologna.

Although born in Brazil, Motta has Italian citizenship and played 30 games for the Azzurri, scoring one goal.

He revitalized his career at Genoa in 2008, then at Inter until January 2012.

This will be an exciting experience for Motta, who has upped the ante with such a performance at Bologna. 

He will have a quality squad to inherit but must add some steel in the midfield to have a formidable side. 

Aston Villa’s Luis Douglas has an agreement with the club, which is a step in the right direction, as Juventus also hopes to tie Andriet Rabiot to a new deal.

The Bianconerri may have the needed attack, but creativity must be added to the midfield for Federico Chiesa and Susan Vlahovic to be prolific.
