The speculation about Kristoffer Ajer’s contract has taken a new turn as reports confirm his former club has a vital sell-on clause inserted in the defender’s contract.
Celtic signed Kristoffer Ajer into the Academy from Norway during Ronny Deila’s reign, and he has passed through the ranks to become a regular in the first team.
However, rumors about his exit have been circulating this summer following the statement of his previous agent in March that there’s no possibility of Ajer signing a new deal at the club.
If Celtic are to let go of their star, it will not be on the cheap, and if his former side is activating a sell-on clause, then there is every possibility of Celtic commanding a higher fee
The director of Ajer’s former club told reporters in an exclusive interview, revealing that when the club sold him to Celtic, they found themselves in an ln awkward financial position, which led to a pressurized negotiation.
“Kristoffer is a top talent, no doubt from the very first time I set my eyes on him. Now take a look where he is, playing for one of the big clubs in Scotland.
Ajer’s rise at Celtic has been phenomenal so far, but many supporters feel he should wait a little bit for at least another season to develop his game. Considering how young he is staying for another year won’t be a bad idea after all, which will equip better for a significant transfer to big clubs.
Celtic also has an understanding of sell-on fees as they include it in all transfers of their players. The same thing might be included in that of Ajer’s when he finally makes a move.
