Juventus came back from 3-1 to win the Serie A clash against AS Roma on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho’s men were on the way to a memorable win leading 3-1 with 20 minutes to go. But after a Lorenzo Pellegrini penalty was saved, Juventus completed an incredible 4-3 comeback win despite the Matthijs de Ligt red card.
The hosts made an aggressive start, and the pressure paid off. Tammy Abraham gave Roma the lead after Jordan Veretout curled the ball onto his head, and the Englishman who was left unmarked scored from four yards.
Juventus equalized from their first real attack as Federico Chiesa shook off Maitland-Niles to roll across from the left. Paulo Dybala then controlled the ball with his right and curled left-footed into the far top corner from the edge of the box.
Juve was on the back foot again after Roma restored their advantage straight after the restart with a stroke of luck. Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s strike took a massive deflection off Mattia De Sciglio, making the ball loop over the helpless Szczesny into the net.
Roma magnificently scored their third as Pellegrini hit his free-kick into the near top corner, giving Szczesny no chance.
Juventus then reduced parity through Manuel Locatelli. The midfielder got an assist from substitute Alvaro Morata came. The Spaniard skinned Roger Ibanez down the right before floating a cross onto the head of Locatelli.
Juventus then secured the equalizer through Kulusevski, who fired in after a rebound. The goal was initially ruled offside, but a very long VAR check overturned the decision into a goal.
Juventus then completed the turnaround punishing Smalling for his poor defensive header, which fell kindly, Mattia De Sciglio, who chested it down and drilled into the near bottom corner from eight yards.
Roma would have equalized, but Pellegrini failed to convert his spot-kick. He played a weak spot-kick that Wojciech Szczesny parried and then slipped on the rebound.
