Arsenal and Manchester United clashed in a pre-season friendly in the United States on Saturday at the SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, with the Reds coming off worse after losing to the Gunners and losing two players to injury.
The game, which also had a rule that a penalty shootout would be held at the end of the game irrespective of the results, saw Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund and new £52m signing Leny Yoro substituted in the first half due to injuries.
Hojlund had given Manchester United the lead in their opening US tour game against their Premier League rivals Arsenal in Los Angeles. However, the Gunners equalized through Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus scoring the winning goal for the Gunners.
Both teams are less than three weeks away from the start of the 2024/2025 Premier League season but Ten Hag has to battle his biggest issue from last season. The Dutch manager claims that the club with have to wait till Monday to know the extent of the injuries.
“We have to wait 24 hours, and then we will hopefully know more. We were very careful, especially with Leny. It is disappointing he had to come off, but let’s be positive and see what comes out.” Ten Hag said.
Manchester United didn’t also have Victor Lindelof on duty on Saturday as his place was taken by a youngster who partnered with Harry Maguire in the defence. 20-year-old Rhys Bennett had the second half of last season at Stockport on loan and he featured to show how far he’s gone in his development.
Meanwhile, Arsenal has enjoyed a good summer so far with preparatory matches while also being close to announcing the signing of Italian defender Ricardo Caliofori. The official announcement of that deal is expected to happen on Monday or Tuesday at the latest after Arsenal and Bologna completed the deal.
