Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham feels that Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane will be the perfect fit for the Red Devils to solve their goalscoring woes. Sheringham feels that Kane need to leave Spurs to play at a higher level and that way both parties get the better of the deal.
The England international has returned to form at the right time as he bagged a brilliant brace in Spurs’ 5-0 humiliation against Everton on Monday in the Premier League. The win meant that the Lillywhites are only three points away from the fourth spot. But they have played a game more than their arch-rivals Arsenal.
Sheringham lauded Kane’s performances and also tagged him as the best No.9 in world football currently. “He’s the best No.9 in the world for me. He’s been the best for the last four or five years. Keeps proving it year in and year out,” said Sheringham.
Sheringham even went on to say that Kane will go on to break Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record of being the leading Premier League goalscorer. Although Kane is performing really well, Sheringham believes that the 28-yar-old striker needs to move away from Spurs if he wants to win trophies. He shared his own example of switching sides to join the Red Devils and became a part of the treble winning legendary United team.
“He’s got to eye up the situation – the same as what I did really. Short career, you get probably 12-14 years if you’re lucky. He’s coming into a crossroads in his career of “what do I do, do I stay at a club which might challenge or do I go somewhere I know they’re going to challenge.”
“If I was advising him, you want to play at the top level, you want to play in Champions League finals, you want to be playing for the league title. If you want to do that, I think he needs to leave,” Sheringham added.
Tottenham will play Manchester United in the coming week in a game which will be very important for both teams in the context of the Champions League. Kane has been a subject of interest for both Manchester United and City therefore he has options open if he thinks of moving out of North London.
