Roma recorded an important 4-1 victory against Empoli by scoring four goals in 13 minutes.
A brace from Tammy Abraham brace and each strike from Sergio Oliveira and Nicolò Zaniolo gave the Gialorri the maximum points against the Tuscans that mounted a brave fightback for 4-2.
After some chances, Roma went ahead through Tammy Abraham in the 24th minute. The English man benefitted from Sergio Oliveira’s shot that was deflected into his path. The former Chelsea striker rapidly turned to fire in from 12 yards.
After Ainsley Maitland-Niles weak finish, Roma doubled their advantage from a chaotic corner.
Abraham followed up on Gianluca Mancini’s initial header, which was charged down. His follow-up was parried until Mancini bundled it over the line at the third time of asking. VAR eventually gave him the after the goal-line technology showed his attempt had already crossed over the line.
Roma scored the third goal four minutes later, crumbling Empoli under the swarms of counter-attacks. In the right-side attack, Zaniolo released a pass for Oliveira to fire into the top corner from 12 yards.
They continued their flurry of attacks, and they got the fouth. Mkhitaryan surged down the left and rolled across for unmarked Zaniolo to sweep home from a similar position.
Things went bad for Empoli when Riccardo Marchizza was stretchered off in agony with a serious knee injury after a fall in an unnatural direction.
The hosts then reduced the deficit nine minutes after the restart. Filippo Bandinelli from the by-line released a pass to Andrea Pinamonti, who fired in from close range.
They then reduced the deficit to two goals in the 71st minutes through Nedim Bajrami, who already had a couple of strikes before. His shot took a deflection off Mancini to wrong-foot Rui Patricio.
That was as far they were allowed to go as Roma held on for an important win.
Meanwhile, AC Milan and Juventus played out a goalless draw.
