Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart handed Juventus their first defeat of the season under Thiago Motta, recording a 1-0 win against the Turin club.
The German club got maximum points courtesy of a strike from ex-Atalanta striker El Billa Toure.
The Bianconeri went into the Matchday Three clash on the back of victories from the first and second games, including an incredible comeback 3-2 when down to 10 men away to RB Leipzig.
Stuttgart came into the clash on the back of a 3-1 loss to Real Madrid and was held 1-1 by Sparta Prague.
The first real chance came for the visitors when Josha Vagnoman’s header drifted wide of the back post.
After Nicolò Fagioli’s free kick went wide, Ermedin Demirovic sprung the offside trap on a smart through ball, and his low drive got fingertipped onto the inside of the near post by Mattia Perin.
Perin was again called to action, making a full stretch save to fingertip a looping Deniz Undav header out from under the bar after the splendid Angelo Stiller ball over the top.
VfB Stuttgart almost got rewarded for their attack, having had the better of the first half. They had the ball in the net within seconds of the restart, but VAR disallowed Undav’s strike into the bottom corner for a handball.
Perin again palmed the ferocious Demirovic scorcher over the bar and later fingertipped an Enzo Millot solo attempt around the base of the near post.
After Jeff Chabot cleared Thuram’s effort from the edge of the area almost off the line, Vagnoman had to make a decisive interception to stop Kenan Yildiz from tapping in the Tim Weah cross at the back post.
Danilo was given the marching order after conceding a penalty, catching Roualt on the thigh with a late challenge. After the referee awarded a penalty, the Juventus veteran was issued a second yellow card following the VAR On-Screen Review.
Perin, who stoked in for suspended Di Gregorio, palmed the Millot penalty out of the corner near the bottom.
The visitors eventually scored in stoppages. Toure completed a give-and-go with Millot to burst into the box and beat Perin from a tricky angle to secure maximum points for the Bundesliga side.
