Steven Gerrard says he has heard Derby County are considering making an offer for him although the Rangers boss insists he is fully committed to his current club.
Championship outfit Derby are drawing up a list of candidates to replace current boss Frank Lampard, who is expected to be confirmed as Chelsea’s new manager in the coming days. It is claimed the Rams are showing huge interest in former England international Gerrard, who guided Rangers to second place last season in his debut campaign in Glasgow.
The 39-year-old earned huge plaudits for his style of play with the Gers and Derby believe the ex-Liverpool captain is the man to lead the club back to the Premier League. However, the English side, who lost in the play-off final last season, look like they will have to turn their attention elsewhere after Gerrard revealed he is more than happy in Scotland right now.
He told Sky Sports News: “Yes I’m aware of it but there’s nothing to say on it. I’m very happy here, it’s a privilege to be the Rangers manager. My focus is on the up and coming season. “It’s very similar to when there’s noise around players. I ask the players to stay focused on the job and that is what I will continue to do. There is nothing really to add to that.”
Derby, who are 19.00 to win the 2019/20 Championship title, kick off their campaign at Huddersfield Town on August 5 and the visitors are 3.20 to claim the spoils, a draw is priced at 3.40 while the Terriers are 2.25 favourites.
As for Rangers, they await the release of next season’s fixtures but they are currently 3.20 to win the Scottish Premiership title.
