West Ham United’s breakthrough star Jarrod Bowen has been linked with Liverpool for some months now. Even Liverpool legend Steve McManaman has heaped praise on Bowen and his performances this season.
McManaman was recently asked about the potential move for the West Ham winger and he simply could not stop admiring the Englishman. he highlighted how West Ham bought him from Hull City and now the winger has improved so much.
“He’s been great. They bought him from Hull City for £20 million, which seemed a lot at the time, but he’s been great and continued to improve,” McManaman told HorseRacing.net. “West Ham would be mad to get rid of him because they’re starting to build something themselves and he’s probably now worth double or maybe triple what they paid for him.”
McManaman pointed out how Declan Rice is considered the star at West Ham United but he feels that Bowen is gradually making a name for himself. He also added how he feels Rice will be sold first as the Hammers would not let go of Bowen so easily considering the goals output that he has had this season.
“Declan Rice may be considered the superstar at West Ham but I’d be very surprised if they let Jarrod Bowen go. They may let Declan Rice leave first considering everything he’s done for the club and he will probably go for £100 million. Jarrod’s playing great, he’s scoring plenty of goals and he’s adored there. As we’ve seen on numerous occasions, the grass isn’t always greener,” the former Real Madrid man continued.
But to counter his argument McManaman also pointed out how Liverpool needs to find someone for the future as at some point the Reds need to replace their ageing forwardline.
“However, sooner rather than later, Liverpool will have to start looking to the future. Sadio Mane’s 29, Mohamed Salah’s 29, Roberto Firmino’s 30, so there will need to be a period of rejuvenation, replenishing and a turning over of this current squad.”
Bowen has been a go-to man for goals for David Moyes this season. He has scored six goals along with seven assists in 22 appearances for the Hammers. This is after he scored eight goals and five assists last season. Bowen has already surpassed his last season’s statistics and that gives us the idea of how brilliant he has been for West Ham.
