Following Celtic’s emphatic win and five-star performance, which produced five goals against Kilmarnock at the weekend, one player happy to make a return to the squad is defender Carl Starfelt.
The Swedish international suffered a hamstring injury during a match for Sweden in the Nations League back in June. However, Starfelt returned to the matchday squad against Kilmarnock at the weekend and marked it with his first goal for the club in the 76th minute when he came on for Moritz Jenz, who was suspected of having picked up a minor injury.
Speaking in a post-match interview after the win, the centre-back said he was excited to have made returned to the side and also scored his maiden goal.
” Nothing beats that excitement of coming back stronger and better to also score my first goal for the club. I am so excited, and I look forward to helping this great team whenever I’m called on.” He said.
” I will also like to thank the fans for their support. They were amazing and stood with us through thick and thin, and we as a team hope to give them more wonderful performances,” he added.
Carl [Starfelt] return to the Hoops side will give manager Postecoglou a healthy in-depth defence as Domestic and European games will begin to come in thick and fast.
It is also great to see competition across the backline, with Jenz competing with Starfelt and Cameron Carter – Vickers as options in defence. However, they can’t always play every game as they will be rotated. The 27- year old has, however, admitted he is ready to fight for his place to nail down a starting spot.
Celtic will hope to continue their winning run in the SPFL as they welcome Hearts to Celtic Park on 21st August 2022.
