Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspurs side was magnificent in their 3-0 humbling of a miserable ten-man Manchester United side at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Prior to Sunday’s fixture, Tottenham Hotspurs were gunning to extend their head-to-head unbeaten run against Erik Ten Hag’s Red Devils, thus coming out aggressively from the kickoff blast.
Their swashbuckling approach to the encounter returned with an early opener in the third minute. Micky van de Ven blitzed forward from his own half and delivered a pinpoint pass across United’s goal for Brennan Johnson to convert into the back of the net.
Thereafter, the pair of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski linked up swiftly before the former Leicester City midfielder was denied by André Onana in goal.
Ange Postecoglou’s men created several problems for a hapless Manchester United side, which culminated in frustration for the hosts, who had their captain sent off before the break.
Bruno Fernandes became the fourth United captain to be sent off in a Premier League match at Old Trafford after a rash challenge on James Maddison.
With a numerical advantage, Spurs continued from where they left off in the first half and got their second goal of the afternoon inside three second-half minutes when Johnson forayed forward and played a pass that went off De Ligt and was succinctly turned home by Kulusevski.
Any hope of a spark from United was ultimately deleted in the seventy-eighth minute as Lucas Bergval and Pape Matar Sarr came off the bench and made instant impacts in getting Spurs’ third goal, the chance they created was poked home by Dominic Solanke, who has now scored in three consecutive matches for the Lillywhites.
The win means that for the first time since October last year, Spurs have now recorded four straight wins, while United will hope for a turnaround, having gone winless in three straight games.
