Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has is eager to get any trophy whatsoever for the season.
Solskjaer revealed this ahead of Manchester United’s EFL Cup tie against Everton in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
Since the UEFA Europa League Crown in 2017 under Jose Mourinho, the Red Devils haven’t won a trophy.
The Norwegian understands the expectations on the Red Devils and says his team would continue to improve as he seeks his first title as the manager of the club side, having lost in three different semifinals last season.
“We want to improve and we’re expected to win trophies, To improve on last year is to get to the final – and when you get there, there’s only one thing that matters: to lift the trophy. It’s really important we try to get our hands on silverware. We haven’t won in the last two or three years now and it’s important. We are desperate to get our hands on a trophy; these players are desperate to learn how to win.” Solskajer said.
Manchester United and Everton are levels on points in the English Premier League with United in third and Everton and fourth ahead of the match that will be seen by 2008 the Goodison Park on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Everton haven’t played in a semifinal since 2016 and the team hasn’t won a trophy since the FA Cup Triumph in the 1994 and 1995 season.
However, their bid to move into the semifinals of this season’s EFL cup has been hit with James Rodriguez’s absence due to injury.
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the Colombian would be unavailable for the game despite returning to individual training.
James Rodriguez has missed Everton’s last three matches due to a calf injury.
On Tuesday, Brentford defeated Newcastle 1-0 to dump the Toons out of the EFL Cup while Manchester City thrashed Arsenal 4-1 to move into the next round of the FA Cup.
