The plot thickens at the bottom of the Premier League for Norwich City, with the lower mid-table teams failing to win along with the fellow bottom feeders Watford and Southampton. Norwich had an excellent chance to tighten the gap to the safe-zone on Sunday against Sheffield United, but despite a good start to the game the visitors snatched all three points with a stunning return to the second half.
Norwich came into the game with their guns blazing and threatened Dean Henderson’s goal for a couple of times before scoring the go-ahead goal on 27th minute. Norwich was awarded six corner kicks in the first half only and indeed it was from a corner they finished the first goal of the game. Alexandre Tettey arrived timely on a rebound and smashed the ball into the goal with pure force. The Canaries stayed in control for the first half, reducing Sheffield’s chances to only one shot on goal.
The visitors started the second half with a blast and looked a different team completely, with Norwich left wondering what had just happened. First it was Enda Stevens on 49th minute, who finished up a cross sent by George Baldock from the right hand side byline. Stevens beat the Norwich defender in the air and sent a powerful header past Tim Krul in the Norwich goal. That was not all she wrote though. Only a couple of minutes later Geroge Baldock found the net himself after fantastically dribbling the ball in the midst of Norwich defenders. The turn-and-release effort surprised Tim Krul in the net and the ball whistled past the Dutchman into the back corner.
Norwich never regained their momentum in the game and only managed one shot on goal in the second half. Sheffield United showed why they are one of the most defensively sound teams in the league by shutting down the Norwich attack completely to finish the game with 1-2 road victory, their first in five games.
With all the teams placed 15 to 19 losing, Norwich is still stuck in the relegation zone with 11 points, while Aston Villa is the first team in safety with 15 points. The Canaries next travel to face Leicester on Saturday the 14th December. Leicester are magnificently second in the league and there’s not much expectations for that trip regarding snagging points.
