La Liga side Sevilla has crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after losing 1-0 to RB Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening.
The results contained Sofia to third position on the log you needed the crash into the UEFA Europa League where they have been a dominant force in the past.
Noah Okafor’s 50th-minute strike was all that condemned Sevilla to the Europa League while the Austrians finished second behind Lille, who beat Wolfsburg 3-1 on the night.
Meanwhile, Villareal’s clash with Atalanta on Wednesday evening was postponed till Thursday afternoon after weather conditions became unsuitable for the football game.
The game will be played on Thursday afternoon, with the kickoff time yet to be announced. The Yellow Submarines are second on the table, and avoiding a loss will see them through behind Manchester United.
The UEFA Europa League champions will get the chance to defend their title if they lose as they will drop into the UEFA Europa League.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad will hope to avoid the drop into the UEFA Europa Conference League when they host PSV on Thursday evening.
Sociedad lost to Real Madrid in their last game in the La Liga 2-0 at the weekend, and they sit in third position in the Europa League group behind Monaco who tops the table with 11 points and PSV in second with eight points while they themselves have six points from five games.
With a win, they will overtake the Dutch side, but they cannot catch up with French team AS Monaco on the table.
As it stands, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have moved into the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. Villarreal will also join them so far they avoided defeat in Bergamo.
However, Barcelona have crashed out of the UEFA Champions League, and they will now play in the UEFA Europa League after their loss to Bayern Munich.
