Another exciting round of football action took place across different venues of the Italian Serie A this weekend.
9 League matches Matchday 7 were played across different venues. The 10th game between Brescia FC and US Sassuolo earlier scheduled for Friday, 4th October, had to be postponed following the death of Sassuolo’s owner and patron Giorgio Squinzi.
Other games went on as planned with the match of the round undoubtedly being the top of the table clash between Football Club Internazionale Milano and Juventus FC dubbed the Derby d’italia. The game was played at the San Siro on Sunday 6th October.
The Bianconeri wasted no time starting the match in storming fashion. In the 4th minute, Argentine striker Paolo Dybala latched onto a lovely long ball from midfielder Miralem Pjanic before running into the Inter penalty area and finishing expertly past the home side’s goalkeeper, giving the Old Lady an early 1-0 lead.
It didn’t take long for the Nerazzurri to hit back when they were awarded a penalty in the 18th minute. Juve defender Matthijs de Ligt was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area. Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez duly stepped up and put the ball beyond Juventus keeper Wojciech Szczesny to draw both sides level.
However, the Turin side had the last laugh. In the 80th minute, striker Gonzalo Higuain pounced on a pass from fellow substitute Uruguayan Rodrigo Bentancur within the Inter box, hitting one time past their goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, to give the Old Lady a valuable 2-1 away win, putting them one point clear of Inter with 19 points at the top of the league table. Following the loss, Antonio Conte’s Inter slipped to second on the log with 18 points.
Juventus are 1.90 to win their next fixture against Bologna, while Inter Milan are strongly fancied at 1.93 to win their next game against Sassuolo.
In other games, the impressive Atalanta BC moved to 3rd on the league table with 16 points after a home 3-1 victory over US Lecce. Fellow top four challengers SSC Napoli and AS Roma played out a goalless and 1-1 draws respectively with Torino FC and Cagliari Calcio.
In the relegation zone, UC Sampdoria remains rooted to the bottom of the table after their 2-0 away loss to Hellas Verona. Genoa CFC as well stays a spot of the bottom on 5 points after their home 2-1 loss to AC Milan in a tumultuous match where two players from both sides were sent off.
In match results, ACF Fiorentina and SPAL recorded slim 1-0 wins over Udinese and Parma Calcio 1-0, while SS Lazio and Bologna FC played out to a 2-2 draw.
The next round of matches will be played on Saturday 19th October after the International break.
Lazio are backed at 2.44 to win Atlanta in the opening game of matchday 8, while Atlanta are priced at 3.77 to win Lazio.
