With Barcelona’s struggles to balance their books and account comes with the need to sell players. Therefore it’s not a surprise that the Catalans have been extremely active in the current summer transfer window.
The team has managed to sign players without spending much. They have brought in three players, two of them as free agents with the exception of Raphinha from Leeds United.
Nevertheless, there is still a need to shed more as four players have been told that they are surplus to requirements at the club.
The club is also trying to sell Frankie de Jong to Manchester United, and while he may not be the last exit from the club, one of the club’s defender Sergino Dest has reassured Barcelona fans that he will not be leaving the club this transfer window.
Rather, he has explained that he is looking forward to an injury-free season with the FIFA World Cup close. After reports linked him with a move two Premier League side Chelsea Football Club, the American defender made this explanation.
“I’m not thinking about transfers at the moment, I’m happy at this club, so I will definitely stay here. For me, personally, I really need to get fit, I came back from an injury; I had two injuries last year on one side, so I don’t want any injuries anymore. It’s going to be a great season for all of us. Personally, for the ones that have a World Cup coming up, we all can’t wait to play that as well.” Dest said.
Sergino Dest played in Barcelona’s first pre-season match this week when they played a 1-1 draw with Olot. The 21-year-old joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2020 and has made 67 appearances in two years. He made 21 La Liga appearances last season.
