Ruben Amorim marked his first home premier league game with an emphatic victory in emphatic as they easily put away lowly Everton.
Amorim had begun his United adventure at Ipswich last weekend with a win before beating Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday.
After having little control of the tie at Old Trafford, United were initially wasteful in the final third. Still, they were clinical once they broke through, with Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee scoring twice.
Jarrad Branthwaite, a United target in the summer, had a game to forget as the defender inadvertently contributed to United’s first two goals.
Rashford’s low strike deflected in off his outstretched boot for the opening goal before he dawdled on the ball, allowing Amad Diallo to nip in and feed Bruno Fernandes, who laid it off for Zirkzee to convert.
The Red Devils put the game beyond the visitors 20 seconds into the second half when Diallo slid a pass through to Rashford to convert. Zirkzee made it four for United on 64 minutes to wrap up a comfortable victory.
This makes it win number 42 for the Red Devils in the Premier League, which becomes the highest tally of any side against one opponent in the competition.
Feel good factor seems to have returned to Manchester United as supporters who have craved meaningful success on the pitch since the retirement of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 appear to have a new hero.
The Portuguese manager got serenaded by the Stretford End faithful with chants of “Amorim’s red army” as he made his way off the pitch. The former Sporting Lisbon manager remains unbeaten in his opening three games.
It is now left to see if this thrashing is an early sign of what may lie ahead under his command. He had won all 22 home games with Sporting since the start of last season and began his league tenure at the Theatre of Dreams similarly.
The win moved the Red Devils to ninth place. With a packed December ahead of Amorim, a fine start in his credentials will be severely tested when his side travels to in-dorm Arsenal on Wednesday.
