Bayern returned to winning ways in the Bundesliga by recording an emphatic victory over Freiburg on Sunday evening.
Goals from Serge Gnabry, Chupo Moting, Leroy Sane, Sadio Mane, and Marcel Sabitzer were enough to catapult the defending champions to second on the log.
Heading into the game, the Bavarians boast of a healthy record against their opponents as they’ve never been defeated at home in the league, backed up with 20 victories and three draws in their 23 past fixtures so far.
There are doubts initially as to if Nagelsmann’s side will convert their form in Europe to the domestic scene as they’ve struggled in previous weeks in Bundesliga. However, Sunday’s game showed a Bayern side we use to know as they restored that winning mentality by overpowering Freiburg.
Since the blast of the whistle, Bayern quickly stamped their authority on the game and opened the scoring early in the 13th minute through Serge Gnabry’s looping header after Mark Flekken spilled an initial Leroy Sane strike.
Buoyed by the first goal, the Bavarians got the second in the 33rd minute through Eric Maxim- Chupo- Moting. The Cameroonian was allowed much time and space by Ginter as he drilled a low parallel shot at the far left side of the goal.
Freiburg had the woodwork to thank minutes later as Gnabry’s effort crashed off the bar. However, the case was not to be in the 52nd minute as Sane ferocious 22-yard strike went like a launched rocket straight into Flekken’s goal.
It was goals galore onwards and upwards as Sadio Mane came to the party with a brilliant chip over the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.
With just ten minutes left on the clock, Sabitzer added more salt to Freiburg’s injury in the 80th minute punishing the opposition defense to cap off a resounding 5-0 win at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern climbed to second with 19 points, four behind league leaders Union Berlin who defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 earlier at noon.
