Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek claims that he is ready to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge after his loan stint at Fulham. He feels that he can have a big season at Chelsea this time around.
The English midfielder who broke into the Chelsea side seven years ago has never managed to cement a place in the starting eleven in West London. Also, an Achilles injury back in 2019 hindered his progress and after that Chelsea loaned him out to Fulham so that he can get more gametime.
Fulham were relegated from the Premier League last season after finishing 18th in the points table. Although they have fallen to the Championship, Loftus-Cheek was a shining light for Fulham in the middle of the par. The 25-year-old midfielder has shown that he has the physical capability to succeed in the Premier League every week. Loftus-Cheek is now gearing up for a big season at Chelsea.
“I had last season as a season where I can find my feet and it definitely felt like that at the start,” Loftus-Cheek has told the Blues’ official website.
“I was struggling mentally and needed to focus on just taking risks in training and get that feel back, but it eventually came and I was doing really well in games, so I’ve had my injury and I’ve had a season now to get fit and feel confident in my body and this season is where I hit the ground running.”
Ahead of Chelsea’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal, the 25-year-old opened up more on his physical condition. He said, “I feel really fit now and strong, and hopefully the injuries stay away.
“Last season was my first full injury-free season which is a massive positive for me because I always used to get niggles.
“Even though I was fit I’d be out for a week or a couple of days, miss a couple of matches, but last season was good for my body to be fit every training session and available for every game.”
Loftus-Cheek showed his class at Crystal Palace on loan during the 2017-18 season. He then again had a great spell with Fulham last time out. The English midfielder will hope that he can get into Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the next season.
