Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock move to Manchester United this summer has to be the most standout transfer of the summer. The Portuguese icon’s return to Old Trafford was sensational as he scored a brilliant brace against Newcastle United. While Manchester United have slowed down after a superb start to the season, they still have Ronaldo to pick them up.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been a revelation when it comes to motivating others. There have been reports of his impact at the club. But now United star Luke Shaw has confirmed that the 36-year-old’s arrival has changed the entire team. The England international explained how the other players follow their Portuguese teammate during the training sessions and they also try to match his work ethic and professionalism. Most of the players feel that Ronaldo’s indomitable nature and leadership can turn the club’s fortunes on the pitch.
The Red Devils have slowed down after a decent start to the season. Three defeats in September and even October started with a drab 1-1 draw with Everton, so Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s men will need that extra bit of motivation in the coming matches.
“You know the star he is, what he has been doing over a number of years, it is just unbelievable to be in a dressing room with him,” Shaw told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“You see the way he conducts himself, how professional he is. It’s clear to me why he has been at the top for so many years.
“His mentality is second to none. I think he has really improved that in and around the changing room.”
Ronaldo has already been exceptional for the club since he joined in the summer. He has scored five goals in six appearances which include a late winner against Villareal in the Champions League. He also scored a brilliant brace against Newcastle United to mark his return to Old Trafford after nine long years.
However United are currently in the fourth position in the Premier League points table, tied with rivals Manchester City and behind leaders Chelsea and Liverpool. The Red Devils have some notable signings this summer and hence there is pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to deliver results this season or else things can go south quickly for the Norwegian.
