AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli has lambasted the media outfit, Il Messaggero, that quoted him out of context concerning him being likely to join Lazio.
Romagnoli, who will be a free agent in July, had been misquoted when he said he’d gladly join Lazio the next day when asked about his next move as he refused to sign a new deal with the Rossoneri.
While expressing his disgust over the phrase invented by the media outfit, the centre-back, who is a lifelong supporter of the Biancocelesti and eager to work with coach Maurizio Sarri said the outfit lacks respect.
Since he is yet to agree to a new contract with the Rossoneri, Romagnoli, who is widely expected to leave as a free agent in the summer, could make the Rome club his next destination.
According to the report released by Il Messaggero after the 2-1 Milan victory at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening, Romagnoli told some Lazio fans that if it was up to him, he would have joined the club the next day.
Reacting to the report via his Instagram Stories, the 27-year-old defender wrote: “I don’t understand how a newspaper can just invent, out of nowhere and with no respect, a phrase like that.”
Despite coming through the Academy of AS Roma, Romagnoli has always been a Lazio fan.
His first Serie A action was while he was on loan with Sampdoria in 2014-15 under Sinisa Mihajlovic, who then insisted Milan sign him for €25m in the summer of 2015.
As it stands, Romagnoli could follow Franck Kessie, who is reportedly heading towards Barcelona out of Milan.
He could change his mind by at least signing a year extension as Championship League football look to be on the card for the Diavolo.
No player would want to reject such compositions that could bring about an increase in pay and some other bonuses.
