Manchester United didn’t have a great last week as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham United as they lost 1-0. Soon after, the Red Devils were stunned by Aston Villa on their home turf as they once again lost by a same margin after Kortney Hause found the back of the net in the 87th minute through a header on Saturday.
Manchester United’s talisman Bruno Fernandes had a chance to help his team share one point but he squandered his chance from the penalty spot when Hause was found guilty of a hand-ball as the Portuguese had no control on the shot.
It was United’s first loss of the Premier League season and former defender Rio Ferdinand has questioned manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics during the recent games.
“With Ole’s team, I’m still trying to work out what the traits are with that team,” Ferdinand told FIVE’s YouTube channel. “What are the go-to, certain fundamentals that make them click?
“Up until now, it’s always been, for me, maybe relying on a [Marcus] Rashford, or a Bruno or a [Paul] Pogba, to have that moment and I know there are phases of play, but they’re not phases of play where you see it consistently, always happening.
Ferdinand added that the passing accuracy of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba is incredible but United fail to keep the ball consistently like the other teams.
“When Pogba or Bruno get the ball, you see players run long and it [style of play] doesn’t jump out from off the pitch or the screen to me as much as it does with other teams at the moment.
“I’d love to know what are the fundamentals that Ole is working on getting.”
Manchester United will aim to bounce back stronger in their coming matches. The Reds will play their second match of the Champions League against Villareal after losing their opening match against Young Boys in Group F.
