AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez has a good chance of getting a call-up into the French national team for the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament, as per latest reports.
The 23-year-old has joint Spanish and French citizenship and that makes him eligible to represent both countries. However, he has always expressed his desire to play for France and he has represented Les Bleus at various youth level competitions as well.
He is yet to get his senior cap with France, though. But it looks like that is about to change considering the kind of season he has enjoyed with AC Milan. Hernandez has racked up eight goals and seven assists in his 43 appearances for the club this season and that has pushed his name among the best wing-backs in the world at the moment.
According to RMC Sports, the squad size has been expanded to 26 players from 23 considering the overall situation of the pandemic and the risk of potential injuries. And coach Didier Deschamps wants to boost his stocks for attacking wing-backs with the addition of Hernandez in his squad.
Theo has some competition to get past, though. Interestingly, his brother Lucas Hernandez — a Bayern Munich player — and Everton’s Lucas Digne are competing for the same spot as well. But Theo’s chances could increase a lot if Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy, who is nursing his injury at the moment, is ruled out of the competition.
Before joining AC Milan in 2019, Theo also represented three La Liga clubs — Deportivo Alavés, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad. He scored only three goals in 89 appearances combined for those three clubs but he has turned his career around ever since he joined Milan. Theo has scored 15 goals for Milan in the last two seasons combined.
