Real Madrid’s already depleted squad has suffered another significant blow, with midfielder Eduardo Camavinga ruled out for almost three weeks due to a hamstring injury.
The 22-year-old French midfielder sustained the injury during Real Madrid’s Champions League loss to Liverpool on Wednesday, leaving the pitch in the 56th minute and replaced by Dani Ceballos.
The club revealed the player’s predicament in a statement on their social media platforms.
“Following tests carried out today on our player Eduardo Camavinga by the club’s Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the femoral biceps of his left leg. Pending evolution.” the club statement read.
Camavinga’s absence will be deeply felt, particularly in the midst of a congested fixture schedule, as Real Madrid faces seven matches over the next three weeks, including crucial La Liga encounters against Getafe, Athletic Club, and Girona, as well as pivotal Champions League clash with Atalanta.
Real Madrid has several key players currently sidelined as defenders Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal are recovering from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, while David Alaba is still working towards full fitness after his own ACL setback.
Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is also unavailable due to an ankle injury, leaving manager Carlo Ancelotti with limited options in central areas. Furthermore, Brazilian stars Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo are nursing hamstring injuries.
As Real Madrid navigates this challenging period, Ancelotti will be forced to rely on his squad’s depth and resilience. The team’s ability to cope with the absence of several key players will be severely tested over the coming weeks.
Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League situation sees them sitting in 24th position on the table at the risk of getting knocked out in the first stage of the computation, although their league standing puts them second place behind Barcelona with a four-point difference and with a game in hand.
