Real Madrid will have to wait a couple of more weeks before they see summer signing and Turkish youngster Arda Guler in action after it was confirmed that the midfielder, who only returned from a knee injury last week, had sustained another injury.
After joining from Fenerbache in the summer, Guler’s pre-season was disrupted by a knee problem, but his return to fitness raised hopes that he will feature as Real Madrid face Las Palmas in the La Liga on Wednesday.
However, the Los Blancos, who lost 3-1 in the Madrid derby at the weekend, confirmed in a club statement on Wednesday that the youngster is injured after conducting a test which revealed an injury to his left rectus femoris muscle and that his progress will be monitored.
“After the tests carried out on our player Arda Guler by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the left rectus femoris muscle. His progress will be monitored.” The statement read.
The Los Blancos lost in a scandalous 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid, a result that Carlo Ancelotti has taken full responsibility for. Despite the defeat, Real Madrid remain in third position with 15 points from six games, and they would have the opportunities to return to the top of the table ahead of Barcelona, who were held to a 2-2 by Mallorca on Tuesday.
However, a win for Girona away at Villarreal on Wednesday could deny Real Madrid the top of the table spot for matchday 7.
Vedat Muriqi, eight minutes into the game, gave the hosts the lead before Raphinha equalized for Barcelona in the 41st minute, although there was time for Abdon Prats to return the hosts back into the lead in first-half stoppage time.
20-year-old Fermin Lopez equalised again for the visitors with 15 minutes left to play, but there was no winner to come despite the best efforts of the Barcelona team that had a penalty turned over by the VAR.
Barcelona remains top of the table with 17 points from 7 games, while second-placed Girona and Real Madrid have a game to play on Wednesday.
