Real Madrid will hope that the postponement of their weekend La Liga fixture against Valencia due to the flooding disaster in the region will give them the momentum and required energy to face Italy and side AC Milan, who visit Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s last fixture was their 4-0 loss to Barcelona in the El Clasico the upper weekend with the Copa Del Rey during the week, Real Madrid have gone ample time to rest and restrategize in a bid to get their UEFA Champions League campaign back on track after starting with two wins and a loss to Lille in the league phase so far.
Those results have left Real Madrid in a distant eleventh position on the table, and they need to change their form on the European scene with five games left if they want to avoid the play-offs stage.
However, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti seems to be less concerned about any potential result ahead of the clash with his former team but rather about the situation in Spain that has left over 200 people dead, saying that football in Spain should have been postponed once the flooding disaster happened last week.
“It was supposed to be a special game for me, facing Milan. But there is no meaning in talking about football now. It has been a difficult week, not because of what happened with the Ballon d’Or or El Clasico. It happened, and that’s why congratulations to the winners. Our sadness is not about that. It is for what is happening here in Spain.” said Ancelotti.
Games in the Copa del Rey, La Liga and lower league fixtures, especially those in the Valencia region were postponed due to the flooding incident. Real Madrid’s Copa Del Rey fixture against Valencia was postponed amongst some other games in the La Liga involving Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal.
AC Milan have only won once in their first three UCL League phase fixtures.
