In a commanding performance at home, Real Madrid significantly bolstered their lead at the top of La Liga by securing a 4-0 win against a struggling Celta Vigo team. The victory on Sunday not only demonstrated Real Madrid’s dominant play but also intensified the relegation concerns for Celta Vigo.
From the onset, Real Madrid showed their intention to maintain their position at the summit of La Liga. Vinicius Jr. and Arda Guler, the latter marking his first goal for the club at just 19 years old, were among the scorers. The win was further cemented by unfortunate own goals from Celta’s Carlos Dominguez and goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.
The match was initially laced with some stunning saves by Guaita in the first half. However, he was unable to prevent Vinicius Jr. from breaking the deadlock in the 21st minute. Vinicius Jr.’s goal, his 10th of the season, set the tone for the match. Following the match, Vinicius expressed his satisfaction, emphasizing his desire to avoid injuries and continue contributing to the team’s success in various roles on the field.
Real Madrid’s lead was doubled in the 79th minute through an unfortunate incident for Celta, as Antonio Rudiger’s header from a Luka Modric corner ricocheted off the bar and Guaita before crossing the line. The misfortune continued for Celta Vigo with Dominguez’s own goal in the 88th minute. Guler’s late goal in stoppage time was the icing on the cake for Real.
Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, praised Guler’s brief but impactful appearance, highlighting his talent and promising future at the club. This victory places Real Madrid seven points clear at the top of the table, ahead of second-placed Girona, following their 2-0 win over Osasuna.
Celta Vigo, under the guidance of former Madrid manager Rafa Benitez, now finds themselves in a precarious position, just above the relegation zone. Despite the defeat, Benitez remains optimistic, focusing on recovery and preparation for the upcoming matches.
As the season progresses, Real Madrid continues to solidify their title aspirations, while Celta Vigo faces a critical battle for survival in Spain’s top flight.
