Marcus Rashford was at the double on Sunday as Manchester United beat Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday in the Premier League at Old Trafford. Results across the league on Saturday gave Manchester United the opportunity to move closer to the two teams at the top.
While Arsenal came out top 4-2 in a six-goal thriller against Aston Villa, Manchester City was held to a 1-1 draw by Nottingham Forest at City Ground.
Despite the impressive start to the game by visiting Leicester City, chances by Kelechi Iheanacho were kept out by the impressive David De Gea in goal for the Red Devils.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for Manchester United against the run of play in the 25th minute after set free by a pass from Bruno Fernandes to put the ball away.
The forward doubled Manchester United with a brace in the 56th minute of the encounter as the in-form striker was substituted with the second leg of their UEFA Europa League encounter against Barcelona looming on Thursday.
Substitute Jadon Sancho also got on the score sheet with a goal in the 61st minute as Leicester City lost concentration in the game.
Manchester United could have added more, but Dutch forward Weghorst was wasteful.
Manager Erik Ten Hag associated Rashford’s form, which has given him 24 goals this season, his most prolific for United, to the understanding and synergy within his team.
“The team is putting Rashford in the right positions, especially Bruno; he creates how many passes, he gives behind, he crosses in. Not only Bruno, but I think he is doing a great job. We need all players in form, but we have to follow the principles of our way of play, and if we do that, we can play very well, and we have seen that in the second half.” Ten Hag said.
Meanwhile, the manager refused to consider his team to be in the title race despite being five points behind Arsenal at the top and three points away from Manchester City.
