England forward and newly-signed Chelsea striker Raheem Sterling has lifted the lid on the reason behind his move from Etihad Stadium to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Raheem Sterling joined the Blues on a £50 million deal, and the former Liverpool striker revealed that with his playing time dwindling at Etihad Stadium, his personality could not cope with playing a limited role, and thus he knew he needed to move on to get better playing time.
The former Liverpool striker spoke about his breakthrough into the Reds team as a 17-year-old in 2012, just two years after joining them from the QPR academy.
He moved on to Manchester City in 2015 for £49M and has won four Premier League titles with City, the League Cup five times, and the FA Cup once.
“Since I was 17, I’ve been a regular starter, and to get to the peak in my career, not to be playing regularly was something I wouldn’t accept. My personality is to try to fight and change the scenario, but it didn’t come, and that was it,” Sterling said.
He said he couldn’t afford to waste that time and needed to keep that same level and a fresh challenge after his time at City got limited, especially on the pitch.
Subsequently, Raheem Sterling became the first major signing for Chelsea since they were taken over by Todd-Boehly.
He featured in their 1-0 victory against Everton on the Premier League opening weekend. The Blues will face Tottenham Hotspur next in their second-week fixture in the Premier League.
