PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino has expressed excitement over the 2-1 win against Angers at the Parc De Princes during the weekend.
The Paris club had to do with a depleted squad that missed its South American players due to international engagement with their respective countries.
The Argentine lauded the squad for its depth, adding that the victory shows the strength of the team.
The matchday 10 of Ligue 1 has come and gone as Paris Saint-Germain got back to winning ways and Marseille secured a win that loved them to the third spot as they took advantage of slip-ups by Nice and Lens.
While Rennes, which had handed PSG their first defeat of the Ligue 1 season continue their goals galore, it was more misery for basement boys Saint Etienne.
In a bid to return to winning ways after their loss against Rennes, Kylian Mbappé had to score a late winner to secure a win over Angers that have been impressive this season. The star man converted a late penalty to secured hard-fought three points for the Paris club at the Parc des Princes.
Angelo Fulgini had put the visitors ahead in front nine minutes before halftime. But PSG laboured hard to break down a resolute Angers defence and they levelled the scored through Danilo’s header home a cross from Mbappé.
Angers would have secured a memorable draw against the Ligue 1 giant, only for defender Pierrick Capelle to hand PSG a penalty after being penalised for handball, Mbappé made no mistake to score his first goal since early September, to complete the turnaround.
Now that Angers is out of the way and the maximum points secured, PSG will now prepare for the visit of RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
They currently topped the Ligue 1 table with 27 points, winning 9 games, and losing one.
Due to the absence of Neymar, Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, Keylor Navas and other top South American players, the former Spurs coach had to make a lot of changes to the team, but he was very happy to have taken all three points against an excellent team
Len Marseille and Nice complete the top four with 18, 17 and 16 points respectively.
Now PSG will face RB Leipzig in their next Champions League group stage game. PSG are currently on four points after drawing with Club Brugge, winning Manchester City. Neymar is ruled out for the game.
