Sources have claimed that Ligue 1 champion Paris Sainte-Germaine could announce the imminent arrival of Christophe Galtier as the new coach of the club.
Galtier, who had resigned from his role at Nice, paved the way for the return of Lucien Favre. For several weeks, he has been in the news, having reportedly agreed to terms and conditions, only to wait for the compensation of Mourinho Pochettino to be sorted.
Meanwhile, this could be delayed further as no move has been finalised while Pochettino and his backroom staff remain under contract.
However, some sources are saying Galtier has been appointed coach of the French champions on a two-year deal.
The 55-year-old Galtier was at the Parisians’ offices just outside the French capital on Monday. Since a press conference has been scheduled at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday at 2:00 pm, it is believed that it is a done deal.
Ahead of the new season, which begins August 6, the team squad, except those who were on international duty in June, have reported for preseason training on Monday.
Galtier was favoured for the role, having developed a reputation as the leading coach in the French club game over the last decade.
Part of his success was an eight-year stint with Saint-Etienne. He had a successful moment there, winning the League Cup in 2013. He then had another four-year stint at Lille, helping them to win the Ligue 1 title in 2021 when they pipped PSG.
Thus, Pochettino will be leaving after 18 months in charge. He only won the Ligue 1 title last season as he oversaw a disappointing exit from the Champions League in the last 16 at the hands of Real Madrid.
The reason for Galtier’s choice is not far-fetched. He had previously worked with Luis Campos, the Portuguese super scout who was recently named as PSG’s football advisor.
They had worked together at Lille when they won the league title.
