As per an ESPN report, Paris Saint-Germain has decided to part ways with Christophe Galtier, despite his successful tenure that saw him guide the team to the Ligue 1 title.
Although Galtier secured the league title for PSG in the 2022-23 season, the club’s failure to achieve success in the Champions League, culminating in their elimination by Bayern Munich in the round of 16, led to his dismissal.
ESPN sources indicate that PSG’s sporting director, Luis Campos, informed Galtier of his sacking on Tuesday. Meanwhile, former Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly in talks with the club and is likely to be a leading candidate for the managerial position.
While former Spain and Barcelona coach Luis Enrique was also considered by PSG, the focus has now shifted to Nagelsmann, who is reportedly keen to have Thierry Henry as his assistant.
There is a growing sense of optimism that an agreement can be reached to bring Nagelsmann and Henry on board at the French champions.
Galtier joined PSG last summer after a successful stint at Nice, where he led the team to a ninth-placed finish in the 2021-22 season. Prior to his time at Nice, he had managerial roles at Lille and Saint-Etienne.
In addition to Galtier’s departure, PSG is set to bid farewell to Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, whose contracts have expired. Furthermore, Neymar is reportedly ready to leave the club this summer, and PSG is open to the possibility of his departure if a suitable offer is received, as sources revealed to ESPN in May.
