Paris Saint-Germain has received a boost as defender Presnel Kimpembe is on the verge of returning to football action, while his teammate Ousmane Dembele may be out of action for a few weeks.
29-year-old Kimpembe has yet to play a minute of football since February 2023, suffering an Achilles tendon injury.
Latest reports from France say there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The Paris Saint-Germain center-back has been injured since February of last year and had to undergo surgery, which unfortunately did not yield the desired result.
After trying to return to the pitch, the Frenchman suffered further setbacks, prompting further surgery at the end of last year.
Kimpembe, in an interview with Canal Plus, said he believed that he would go almost two years without playing.
“All I wanted was to be with the team because I’ve had a good year-and-a-half on the side […] I managed to stay close to the team by making the away trips in the Champions League, and by going to all of the matches. I brought them my support, they gave me theirs.”
As he begins his journey towards recovery, he will be looking to break back into the PSG defence, which will not be an easy task.
Luis Enrique already made Marquinhos and Willian Pacho his first-choice options, whilst the Spanish manager also has Milan Skriniar and Lucas Beraldo at his disposal.
Having been used to competition in all the teams he has played, the Frenchman is determined to convince the manager for a spot in the starting lineup.
Kimpembe, who has also remained in touch with Didier Deschamps, said re-earning a spot in the France set-up is one of his objectives.
It looks like he is closer to return to football action as he has already started training with the first team. PSG is yet to give any update on his likely return time to football action.
