Arsenal’s return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in over 6 years ended in an exciting 4-0 victory over PSV. The Gunners hosted the Dutch giants on Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium and dominated straight from the blast of the whistle, with Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus, and Martin Odegaard all getting on the scoresheet.
It was an expected ecstatic feeling after 90 minutes for the Arsenal side as manager Mikel Arteta explained the mood of the whole team after the final whistle, although he did call for caution as the Gunners set to welcome North London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.
“We enjoyed it. From the first minute, we went for it. We were really good in both boxes, and in the Champions League, when you are really good in both boxes, you have a chance. In between the boxes, there are things to improve, but inside the boxes, we were phenomenal. Enjoy tonight, go home, and have a nice late dinner with my wife. I will enjoy the moment, enjoy the victory, and tomorrow I will focus on Spurs because we have a big game coming up.” Arteta said.
Arsenal are one of the remaining four teams in the Premier League this season who are yet to lose a game alongside Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Liverpool. Of all four teams, only Manchester City maintain their 100% record going into matchday 6.
Pep Guardiola City will open matchday 6 with a home clash against Nottingham Forest, while there will also be a London derby between Crystal Palace and Fulham, Luton Town will host Wolves and Brentford will be at home to Everton.
Manchester United lost 4-3 away at Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday; their next Premier League game will be the late kick-off on Saturday away at Burnley.
Sunday’s Premier League games:
Arsenal v Tottenham
Brighton v Bournemouth
Chelsea v Aston Villa
Liverpool v West Ham
Sheffield Utd v Newcastle.
