Winners of the European Championship in 2016 Portugal will prepare to reclaim the title they lost to Italy in 2020 in this summer’s Euro 2024 championships in Germany and even though nothing is assured, the team has been putting all it needs the place to ensure that they stand the chance.
Led by manager Roberto Martinez and veteran but highly experienced Cristiano Ronaldo, the team has been gearing up for its group stage games against the Czech Republic, Turkey, and debutants Georgia in Group F.
The team faced Finland and Croatia in two friendly international team and will on Tuesday play their last international friendly before moving out to Germany against the Republic of Ireland. Portugal had perfect qualification campaign for this summer’s upcoming UEFA European Championships.
However, Portugal’s has momentum has stunted of late having lost two matches from their last three matches with the most recent being a 2-1 loss against Croatia at the weekend. Roberto Martínez’s side will face Czech Republic in their tournament opener but they will hope to do it not having to bounce back from a back to back loss in international friendlies.
Portugal also have to worry about their defense as the y have now conceded twice in each of their last four matches despite keeping a clean sheet in nine of their Euros qualifiers.
Ireland on the other hand defeated Hungary in their last match to ended a four-match winless run with two draws and two losses.
Other international friendlies coming up on Tuesday will see Kazakhstan face Azerbaijan while Belarus will feature against Israel. Greece will play Malta, and Northern Ireland will tackle Andorra; Moldova will face Euro-bound Ukraine, while two minnows will go head to head as San Marino face Cyprus.
The 2024 in Germany will start on Friday, with the host facing Scotland.
