Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has given an update on the status of Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku as the Blues embark on a pre-season tour.
Romelu Lukaku has been a subject of concern for the Chelsea staff this summer; despite Chelsea being very active in the transfer window, selling players and signing a couple of them, two players in their strikeforce Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku, continue to remain uncertain in terms of their status as players of the club.
While Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang spent last season at Stamford Bridge without playing a noticeable part, Romelu Lukaku was instrumental for Inter Milan as they got to the final of the UEFA Champions League and won the Coppa Italia last season.
Since the end of the season, Inter Milan have been looking for ways to sign the player who joined them on loan last season on a permanent deal. However, their valuations for the player did not meet the expectations of Chelsea QAwho are also reluctant to sell.
Lukaku has been one of the key situations that Mauricio Pochettino has had to face since becoming the manager of the club at the start of July.
After a couple of recent developments, Romelu Lukaku may not go to Inter as their Serie A rivals, Juventus, are keenly interested in signing him, a situation that has forced Inter out of a possible move.
Now Pochettino is waiting on the decision of the club and the player.
“When this type of decision is [made], it’s because all agree, player and club are working hard to try and find the best solution. We act in consequence of the decision, [the] club and player (Lukaku)are in a position they wanted,” said Pochettino.
Lukaku continues to be a big financial problem for Chelsea as they paid £97.5 million ($127m) to re-sign the Belgian in 2021, only to loan him out to Inter for the 2022-23 campaign.
